Position Summary
The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical construction projects. This role analyzes drawings, specifications, labor requirements, materials, and subcontractor pricing to support profitable project execution and successful bid submissions.
Key Responsibilities- Review and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs for materials, labor, and equipment
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for commercial, industrial, and/or residential electrical projects
- Solicit, review, and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
- Develop complete bid packages, including scope clarifications and exclusions
- Apply labor productivity factors, job conditions, and risk assessments to estimates
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams during bid preparation
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost‑saving alternatives
- Maintain historical cost data and estimating databases
- Assist with post‑bid reviews and project handoff meetings
- Ensure estimates comply with company standards, codes, and contract requirements
- 3+ years of experience as an Electrical Estimator or similar role
- Strong understanding of electrical systems (power, lighting, fire alarm, low voltage, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret electrical plans and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software (Accubid, Trimble, Bluebeam, or similar)
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of labor units, material pricing, and market conditions
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Experience with design‑build and negotiated projects
- Familiarity with NEC and local electrical codes
- Understanding of project scheduling and construction sequencing
- Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
- Office‑based with occasional site visits as needed
- Fast‑paced environment with strict bid deadlines
- Accuracy of estimates versus actual job costs
- Bid hit rate and profitability
- Timeliness and completeness of bid submissions
