Position: Transportation Engineer Associate III-Asst. District Special Project Engineer (61034196)

Job Responsibilities

  • Assists the District Special Projects Engineer to ensure all projects are in compliance with contract special provisions, working plans, Standard Drawings, Standard Specifications, environmental permits and guidelines, and Quality Management Team checklist.
  • Schedules engineering and inspection staff to ensure proper staffing of all projects. Prepares weekly schedule for all assignments. Communicates with staff daily.
  • Directly supervises engineering and inspection staff in accordance with all Human Resource guidelines. Reviews and approves working time and leave entries.
  • Reviews and discusses project documentation requirements with inspection and engineering staff. Ensures project documentation is submitted properly and in a timely manner.
  • Prepares, calculates, and compiles preconstruction quantities, utility documents and submittals, change orders, estimate diaries, progress estimates, final estimates, AS-1 spreadsheets, fuel adjustments, cost spreadsheets, construction forms, all closeout package documents, Quality Management Team reviews, and miscellaneous submittals for review by the District Special Projects Engineer.
  • Inspects and assesses for solutions – bridge and structure foundations, mucking and unsuitable material, embankment, subgrade, bases, drainage pipe, asphalt courses, concrete, traffic control, pavement markings, guardrail, cable barrier, seeding, and erosion control.
  • Reviews plans for proposed projects and makes recommendations for improvement. Performs preliminary field evaluations, surveys, and cost estimates on future projects.
  • Assists with emergency and inclement weather operations, may include extended hours and/or 12-hour shifts.
Minimum & Additional Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • Employee must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Physical demands: sitting or standing for extended periods of time; may require travel; may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling; may require driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards; may require work outside normal schedule, especially during inclement weather and other departmental-related emergencies;

    may be exposed to the outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.
