Position Description

Golf Course Superintendent

Build the standard. Protect the details. Drive long-term course performance.

This role is designed for a disciplined, strategic turf professional who thrives on structure, systems, and long-term results. You take pride in designing processes, improving operations, and delivering consistent, tournament-quality conditions through planning, precision, and accountability.

Reporting to the Director of Golf, you will have full ownership of the agronomic operation — from long-range planning and infrastructure to daily execution — ensuring every process, surface, and facility reflects a clearly defined, measurable standard.

This is a role for a self-directed leader who values clarity over chaos, process over reaction, and long-term enhancement over short-term fixes.

Core Focus Course Conditioning & Agronomic Strategy
  • Design and implement comprehensive turf programs that produce consistent, high-performance playing conditions

  • Establish documented standards for daily setup, firmness, speed, and visual presentation

  • Manage irrigation, drainage, and water systems with data-driven decision-making

  • Maintain detailed records to guide forecasting, planning, and continuous improvement

  • Lead renovation, restoration, and construction projects with a long-term architectural mindset

Operational Infrastructure & Asset Management
  • Build and maintain a highly organized, efficient maintenance facility aligned with course standards

  • Implement structured equipment maintenance, replacement planning, and lifecycle management

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and precise chemical and fertilizer documentation

  • Develop and enforce comprehensive safety systems

People & Performance Systems
  • Recruit, develop, and lead a team operating with clear expectations and defined processes

  • Create measurable performance standards for daily course presentation

  • Conduct structured training, evaluation, and professional development

  • Lead through visibility, consistency, and preparation

Financial Planning & Resource Allocation
  • Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets

  • Forecast equipment, infrastructure, and project needs

  • Implement cost-control strategies that protect course conditions and long-term goals

Club Integration & Communication
  • Provide clear, proactive communication on course conditions, agronomic programs, and project timelines

  • Align maintenance planning with the club calendar and competitive schedule

  • Present information in a way that builds confidence in the plan and process

Property & Infrastructure Stewardship
  • Maintain accurate documentation of utilities, drainage, grading, and landscape systems

  • Support storm preparation and emergency response with structured plans

  • Ensure the entire property reflects a cohesive, high-end presentation

Background & Technical Capability
  • 4–8 years progressive golf course management experience

  • 2–5 years as a First/Lead Assistant Superintendent preferred

  • Turfgrass degree or certificate

  • Advanced Ultradwarf Bermuda grass experience

  • GCSAA certification preferred

  • Pesticide applicator license

  • Strong technology and data-management skills

  • Experience with capital planning and project execution

The Right Leader for This Role
  • Sets high standards and builds systems to sustain them

  • Highly organized, forward-thinking, and process-driven

  • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently

  • Makes decisions based on data, observation, and long-term impact

  • Takes pride in preparation, documentation, and follow-through

  • Visible, hands-on, and consistent in execution

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to walk, climb, bend, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods
