Job Description

The Facilities/Project Superintendent oversees the daily operation, activities, maintenance and building of new regional parks. Assists in promoting department parks and programs to increase public awareness and participation.

Essential Functions
  • Oversees the daily operations and activities of regional parks, including special events, athletic programming, facility rentals, park security, concessions, admissions and maintenance.
  • Ensures division compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of quality and safety.
  • Supervises the work of maintenance division staff. Supervisory duties include instructing; assigning, reviewing and planning the work of others; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; selecting new employees, acting on employee problems and recommending employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary increases.
  • Reviews the work of subordinates for completeness and accuracy; evaluates and makes recommendations as appropriate; offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
  • Takes appropriate steps to ensure the safety of all citizens that utilize department property and facilities and take part in any activity offered by the department.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints of citizens and visitors.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance of parks and athletic facilities; inspects grounds and facilities for maintenance needs and prepares work requests.
  • Prepares a variety of documents, including but not limited to invoices, work request, requisitions, monthly reports, performance appraisals, budgets, comparative analyses, economic impact reports, various other records, reports, memos and correspondence.
  • Oversees all existing and future projects, from start to finish.
  • Evaluates division programming through review of participant evaluations and public comment; assists in determining the level of customer satisfaction as well as the cost-effectiveness and profitability of programs.
  • Assists in the planning and management of the division budget; reviews and approves invoices for payment. Assists in creating and implementing new revenue-producing programs.
  • Participates in various marketing and public relations efforts, including giving public presentations, representing the department at County/Community functions, etc.
  • Supervises assigned construction projects, including developing bid specifications, procuring supplies and services, supervising, monitoring and inspecting the work of outside contractors, approving pay requests, and preparing related paperwork.
  • Operates a vehicle, tractor, cushman cart, and a variety of office equipment. Uses computer and clerical supplies, drafting instruments, sports paraphernalia, various hand tools.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Works with the Recreation Commission, community groups and advisory committees to gain support for division initiatives.
  • Coordinates division activities with those of other divisions and County departments as necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and issues in public recreation by reading professional publications and attending conferences, workshops, professional meetings, etc.

    Assist direct reports, other divisions/departments, and other agencies in the planning and execution of events; serves on various County/community committees as appropriate.
Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation and tourism management, business, public administration, or related field supplemented by six to nine years of progressively responsible administration experience, preferably in the leisure industry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
