Job Summary

MUSC is searching for a PRN NP/PA to work at the Leatherman Behavioral Health Hospital in a collaborative role with psychiatry providers to assist in triage and management of psychiatric patients who present to the hospital. The provider will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program with current licensure or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina.
  • APR NP or PA licensed or eligible in South Carolina (e.g., PMHNP, Acute Care NP, or PA).
    • PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health NP) – may focus on adults or across the lifespan.
  • Minimum of one year of mental health provider experience.
  • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) current at start date or to be obtained.
  • Maintenance of all required licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs and similar as mandated by policy and state law.
  • DHEC and DEA license.
Position Highlights
  • Inpatient, outpatient, and CSU services.
  • Evaluate and treat patients based on history, physical examination, laboratory and imaging results in accordance with the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Initiate referrals to other health care providers or consult with attending physicians when appropriate.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Potential to precept students and facilitate learning of new team members.

Job Duties
  • Perform comprehensive mental health evaluations to determine the appropriate level of care, including management of psychotropic medications.
  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.
  • Evaluates and treats based on history, mental status examination, physical examination, radiological, laboratory and other diagnostic test results according to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures within procedural privileges governed by the Clinical Division Chief.
  • Initiate referrals or consults with attending or collaborating physicians when appropriate.
  • Document and bill for direct care provided.
  • Utilize current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice.
  • Participate in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research, when appropriate.
  • Support accreditation, compliance and regulatory activities of the organization.
  • Participate actively in professional organizations and continuing education.
  • Precept trainees and facilitate learning of new team members.
  • Maintain required licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc.
  • Assist with care planning and goal setting, resolving conflicts when they arise.
  • Manage the assigned patient caseload, establishing treatment plans with collaborating/supervising physicians and monitoring implementation.
