Job Description Summary

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

Job Description
  • Provides patient/family‑centered care, acting as partner and adviser, assists and supports patients and families to optimally manage their health care, respecting their culture and values, individual needs, health goals and treatment preferences.
  • Applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, especially when patients have complex or potentially life‑threatening conditions.
  • Uses critical thinking in clinical problem solving relative to scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience.
  • Assists medical staff with preparation, examination, and procedures, including interviewing/screening patients to obtain personal data and chief complaints, documenting for records, and recording vital signs.
  • Performs telephone and in‑person screenings.
  • Participates in recording and reporting responsibilities; documents findings relevant to the patient’s health‑care status or plan of care, and documents accurately and consistently in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Prioritizes and documents incoming phone calls, as assigned, regarding medications, medical conditions, and reviews with provider as needed for orders or changes.
  • Maintains cleanliness and supplies in examination rooms and other areas.
  • Documents all patient care delivered in the medical record per medical‑center policy.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Graduation from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and licensure as an LPN in the state of South Carolina or a compact state.
  • One year of LPN experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required; certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working from elevated areas, and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work from kneeling positions, bend, twist at the waist, squat, and use feet for balance.
  • Ability to use fingers and hands for gross‑motor tasks, firm grasp, reach overhead and in all directions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder motions.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted; lift/lower objects 50 lbs from floor to 36 inches unassisted; lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs; exert up to 50 lbs of force.
  • Examples: transferring a 100‑lb patient requires 50 lbs of force; pushing a 400‑lb patient in a wheelchair requires 20 lbs of force; pushing a stretcher with one hand requires 25 lbs of force.
  • Vision: maintain 20/40 corrected in one or both eyes; recognize objects close or distant, match colors, determine distance/relationship.
  • Hearing: maintain hearing acuity with or without correction.
  • Ability to perform gross‑motor functions with frequent fine movements.
  • Ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime as required.
  • Ability to work in a latex‑safe environment.
  • Ability to maintain tactile, olfactory, and respiratory sensor functions as required.
