Reports To: Public Works & Utilities Director
Status: Full-Time
Pay: $21 – $22 per hour
Position OverviewAs a Utility Crew Member, you will assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of the City’s utility systems. This includes water lines, sewer lines, meters, and related infrastructure. You will work closely with other team members to ensure safe, reliable services for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with installation and repair of water and sewer mains, service lines, and utility infrastructure.
Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of utility systems.
Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as trenchers, compactors, and small machinery.
Locate utility lines and ensure compliance with safety procedures and SC811 requirements.
Read and replace water meters; assist with meter cut-offs and cut-ons.
Participate in street, sidewalk, and grounds maintenance as needed.
Respond to after-hours emergencies, water leaks, and service requests when required.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Follow all City safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe public environment.
REQUIREMENTSHigh school diploma or GED required.
Valid South Carolina driver’s license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months).
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions.
Experience in utility work, construction, plumbing, or public works preferred (but not required—will train).
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds, work in trenches, and operate various tools and equipment.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team with strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Must pass background check and drug screening.
