This is a full-time, second-shift mechanic position maintaining a fleet of commercial waste trucks and support equipment. This position is a great fit for a newer diesel or automotive mechanic looking to build heavy-duty truck experience.

You'll work with an experienced maintenance team that takes pride in training and developing mechanics. Our maintenance leadership and senior technicians provide hands-on guidance and mentorship, giving you the opportunity to build your skills and take on more advanced work as you gain experience.

SCHEDULE

This is a second-shift position, Monday through Friday. Normal work hours will be either 2:00 PM–2:00 AM or 4:00 PM–4:00 AM.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) services on commercial trucks and support equipment, including oil, filter, and fluid changes.
  • Inspect trucks for safe and proper operation and identify needed repairs.
  • Review driver DVIRs and complete minor repairs and write-ups identified by drivers or during inspections.
  • Remove, install, repair, and replace commercial truck tires and wheels.
  • Inspect, service, and replace drum and disc brake components.
  • Perform basic repairs to lights, electrical components, air systems, hoses, belts, batteries, and other common truck components.
  • Lubricate chassis and equipment and perform other scheduled maintenance according to Company maintenance procedures.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and mechanical repairs within your level of experience and training.
  • Identify worn, damaged, or unsafe components and communicate repairs that require additional diagnosis or more extensive work.
  • Accurately document inspections, maintenance, and repairs performed, including work completed and parts used.
  • Clearly communicate mechanical and safety concerns to supervisors, including repairs requiring additional diagnosis, parts, or follow-up work.
  • Identify and document defects discovered during PMs, inspections, or repairs so they can be properly addressed.
  • Remove from service and lock out trucks or equipment that are unsafe to operate in accordance with Company procedures, and immediately notify the appropriate supervisor.
  • Verify that safety-related repairs have been properly completed before returning equipment to service, when authorized to do so.
  • Keep tools, work areas, and shop equipment clean and organized.
  • Follow Company safety procedures and properly use required tools and personal protective equipment.

This position does not require advanced diagnostic or major overhaul experience. We're looking for someone with a solid mechanical foundation who can perform routine maintenance and repairs safely and correctly and is ready to learn and grow as a heavy-duty mechanic.

Qualifications
  • Mechanical experience with diesel trucks, commercial vehicles, automobiles, heavy equipment, or similar equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical maintenance and repairs using common hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability and willingness to perform oil and filter changes, inspections, tire work, brake work, and routine truck repairs.
  • Advanced diesel diagnostics and major engine or drivetrain repair experience are not required.
