Responsibilities- The CWS Case Manager conducts statewide investigations of allegations of child abuse and neglect in residential institutions, foster homes, residential treatment facilities and child care facilities.
- Investigate reports of alleged child abuse or neglect in institutions, foster homes, facilities licensed by and/or operating in the state, residential treatment facilities, intermediate care facilities, and child care facilities.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely documentation of all case information, observations, and investigative findings in both the case file and the CAPSS data system to support decision‑making, service planning, and legal requirements.
- Engage in scheduled case staffing with licensing agencies, contract management units, service providers, and other key stakeholders to review investigative progress, evaluate safety concerns, clarify roles, and ensure compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Plan and coordinate with the Office of General Counsel to prepare for appeal hearings and court actions, ensuring all documentation, evidence, and case materials are complete, accurate, and ready for legal review.
- Provide 24‑hour on‑call coverage, seven days a week, on a rotating schedule, responding promptly to emergencies, after‑hours inquiries, and time‑sensitive case needs.
- Maintain child welfare certification and complete 20 hours of required training yearly; attend additional training to support professional development.
- Maintain an active routine of self‑care and seek support to minimize secondary trauma and support staff and families.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or Social Science.
- Alternative Bachelor's Degree in any other field with at least one year of related experience.
- Experience in child welfare highly desired; preferred to have a Master's Degree.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

The new Child Welfare salary plan provides higher starting salaries and supplements for front line case managers. Starting salaries for new case managers range from $45,721 (BLS) to $50,293 (MSW). Additional training and competency achievements trigger quarterly adjustments and level promotions with associated salary increases.
