The Information Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to library patrons by assisting with inquiries, guiding them to resources, and supporting the daily operations of the library. This role includes assisting patrons at the information desk, helping with technology‑related questions, maintaining knowledge of the library’s collections and services, and supporting library programs and events. The Information Associate plays a key role in ensuring a welcoming and informative environment for all library users.

Essential Functions of the JobProvide front‑line customer service at the information desk, assisting patrons with inquiries, locating materials, and providing guidance on library services and resources.
Offer basic reference services, helping patrons conduct research and find information within the library’s collections and databases.
Register new patrons for library cards, update accounts, and assist with account‑related questions or issues.
Handle circulation tasks as needed, including checking materials in and out and processing holds.
Maintain a thorough understanding of the library’s collections, services, programs, and digital resources to effectively assist patrons.
Collection MaintenanceShelve returned materials promptly and accurately, so that items are placed in the correct order.
Assist with shelf‑reading and maintaining the organization of library collections, identifying and correcting any misplaced items.
Help prepare library materials for circulation, including labeling, covering, and processing new items.
Assist Circulation Supervisor with running and handling reports.
Occasionally assist with interlibrary loan.
Assist in updating the library’s catalog lists and printed book lists.
Participate in weeding and inventory projects as directed by the Circulation Supervisor or other library staff.
Links on‑order items and participates in other technical services tasks such as checking patron registrations, running reports, and cataloging support as needed.
Technology SupportAssist patrons with the use of library technology, including public computers, printers, scanners, and self‑checkout stations.
Assist patrons in using the library catalog, online databases, and other digital resources, ensuring they can access the information they need.
Troubleshoot minor technical issues for patrons and staff, and elevate more complex problems to the appropriate library staff.
Collaborate with the Tech Services Associate to provide technology‑related programming, tutorials, and written guides for both patrons and staff.
Assist community organizations and library patrons with A/V equipment in community meeting rooms as needed.
Program and Event SupportAssist with the setup, breakdown, and execution of library programs and events, including preparing materials, managing registrations, and providing tech support.
Coordinate with the Library Director to manage program details such as scheduling, payment, and special requirements for events.
Maintain accurate records of event activities, including calendars, registration, attendance, vendor interactions, and budget expenditures.
Assist with clerical tasks related to event planning, such as data entry, filing, and preparing material for distribution.
Assist with post‑event tasks, including cleanup, returning materials, collecting feedback from participants, and program assessment.
Collaboration and CommunicationWork collaboratively with other library departments to ensure that collections, services, events align with the library’s goals and are effectively promoted to the community.
Participate in planning meetings with library staff to discuss upcoming events, share ideas, and coordinate responsibilities.
Maintain open communication with the Library Director and other team members regarding event progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
