Anticipated Elementary School Teacher (K-8)

Qualifications:

B.S./B.A. Degree minimum and appropriate state certification for position held; ability to meet requirements and responsibilities in order to work effectively with students and colleagues; ability to help analyze the educational needs of students and implement programs to meet those needs; ability to communicate effectively.

Principal / Appropriate Supervisor

Primary Function:
Assumes responsibility for the instruction of assigned students in accordance with the prescribed course of study in the teacher's area of certification.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Remain abreast of current developments, new trends, and interpretations of subject matter content in assigned area(s).
• Remain abreast of current developments and new interpretations in teaching methods and learning styles appropriate to the subject area(s) to which assigned.
• Motivate students to master designated subject matter by remaining abreast and employing knowledge in child and/or adolescent psychology and or societal social trends which may affect attitudes and willingness to learn of assigned students.
• Use learning experiences which meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives.
• Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports, as required.
• Diagnose the learning needs of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of District specialists, as required.
• Counsel with students and/or parents when necessary.
• Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
• Assist the coordinator in the review and recommendations for revision of curriculum; assist the administrator in the development and revision of curriculum appropriate for the students of the Florham Park School District.
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
• Cooperatively supervise behavior in the hallways, lunchroom, and on school grounds for the safety and well-being of students, personnel, and visitors.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees, as requested.
• Perform other duties which are within the scope of his/her employment and certifications as may be assigned by his/her superior(s) under authority of the Board of Education and the terms of the Florham Park Board of Education and the Florham Park Education Association Agreement.
• Implement students' individualized education, behavior, and health plans as needed.
• Write progress reports, teacher reports, and other reports regarding student skills and achievement.

Terms of Employment:
In accordance with Florham Park Board of Education and the Florham Park Education Association Agreement.

Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified staff.
