Job SummaryThe Senior Engineer – Strategic Sourcing provides technical leadership for strategic and sustaining engineering initiatives involving external suppliers. This role supports product changes, supplier transfers, tooling launches, and cost and risk reduction efforts, with a primary focus on plastic injection molding tooling, materials, and assemblies.
Key Responsibilities- Identify and mitigate risk within the plastics supply base while ensuring uninterrupted production.
- Lead tooling transfers, new tooling startups, and supplier equipment launches.
- Oversee mold and tooling design, supplier FATs, and validation activities following engineering best practices.
- Manage tooling and equipment repair or replacement at global supplier sites.
- Support supplier selection for medical device materials, components, and assemblies.
- Drive cost reduction, make/buy analysis, and in sourcing/outsourcing initiatives with cross-functional teams.
- Provide Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) recommendations.
- Support supplier capacity planning to meet long- and short-term demand.
- Maintain a high-quality supply base for SPI Class 101–103 injection molds.
- Lead cross-functional problem solving for supplier issues and engineering changes.
- Evaluate raw materials and recommend alternatives when appropriate.
- Strong hands‑on knowledge of plastic injection mold design, build, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with Scientific Injection Molding principles.
- Working knowledge of medical device validation (IQ, OQ, PQ).
- Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and resolve complex technical issues.
- Proficient in CAD and engineering tools (e.g., Solid Works, GD&T, FMEA, molding simulation).
- Experience managing complex engineering projects and timelines.
- Familiarity with product cost analysis and make vs. buy decisions.
- 10+ years in plastic injection molding manufacturing engineering and tooling.
- 3+ years in medical device or other regulated manufacturing environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent.
