About the role

Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Electrical Plant Support Engineering, the Lead Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting the electrical plant support engineering team. The scope covers operational and maintenance support, and assist with design for all electrical aspects of Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTF) worldwide, covering High, Medium, and Low Voltage systems such as switchgears, relays, transformers, Motor Control Centers, and more.

The role also involves troubleshooting for allied disciplines including steam boilers, feedwater pumps, deaerators, condensers, air pollution control, ash handling, metals recovery, and others.

The Lead Engineer will provide technical resolution, troubleshooting guidance, and own root‑cause analyses for larger issues, supporting corrective and preventive actions across the Covanta fleet. As a potential mentor, the Lead Engineer will share best practices and collaborate extensively with sites, requiring roughly 30% travel.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Electrical Design

Assist the design engineering team to review and approve electrical system design documents, including:

  • One Line / Three Line Diagrams
  • DC Control Schematics
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Arc Flash, Short Circuit & Voltage Drop Calculations
  • Coordination studies (SKM is a plus)

Support scope of work development for Electrical AE firms and coordinate with suppliers and contractors as needed.

Commissioning / Startup

Provide on‑site consulting and oversight of equipment installation and readiness for service, and support field activities on construction projects, addressing electrical design and installation issues.

Troubleshooting / Problem Solving

Deliver direct electrical troubleshooting support or engage outside engineering firms as required. Analyze failure root causes, develop cost‑effective solutions using SEL Synchro Wave Event Analyzer, GE Ener Vista, and similar tools. Produce and maintain technical service bulletins and assist sites with technical standards and OEM bulletins.

Continuous Improvement

Collaborate with corporate, plant engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement and productivity goals.

Qualifications
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 4+ years of engineering experience in electrical power distribution.
  • PE license preferred, EIT required.
Experience
  • Ability to travel approximately 30%.
  • Experience with High, Medium & Low Voltage distribution systems and electrical power generation, preferably in large utility power plants or large industrial facilities.
  • Proficiency in One Line / Three Line Diagrams, DC Control Schematics, Wiring diagrams, and GA drawings related to power plants and process plants, including motors, MCCs, PDCs, and other electrical equipment.
  • Experience with microprocessor, solid‑state, and electromechanical protective relaying schemes (Medium Voltage), including coordination, relay setting development, and troubleshooting. SEL relay experience highly preferred.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills with data analysis to identify trends.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to write technical reports, develop work packages, and handle multiple assignments.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to manage multiple facility emergent support concurrently.
  • Experience with SEL Synchro Wave Event Analyzer, GE Ener Vista, and similar tools.
  • Experience using SKM for coordination studies.

Pay Transparency

Reworld is committed to equitable pay. The base pay range for this role based on the primary location is $95,200.00 – $ USD. Final salary will depend on experience, education, geographic location, skills, and other factors.
