In this role, you will contribute to the development and construction of photonic hardware, supporting both research and development laboratory efforts and production programs.
Responsibilities- Fabricate intricate fiber optic subassemblies and integrate them with electrical and mechanical components for breadboard, prototype, and production units.
- Perform optical and electrical testing as specified by work instructions; organize, document, and present data for review and analysis by design and test engineers.
- Collaborate with engineers to support the transition of photonic subsystem designs into production; assemble test sets and test fixtures as required by the program.
- Request material and equipment needed for the assembly and testing of photonic subassemblies; maintain laboratory and laboratory equipment.
- Ensure compliance with OPS’ quality system.
- Required:
- Associate's degree in engineering or a closely related technical field, or equivalent combination of education, skill, and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of “hands‑on” photonic or electrical fabrication, test, and measurement experience.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions or test procedures.

- Prior experience or demonstrated knowledge of passive fiber optic components such as splitters, WDMs, and isolators.
- Prior experience or demonstrated knowledge of active optoelectronic devices such as semiconductor laser diodes, photodiodes, and modulators.
- Proficient in the use of lightwave measurement equipment, including power detectors, optical spectrum analyzers, polarization‑extinction ratio meters, polarimeters, and optical time‑domain reflectometers; skilled in analyzing and interpreting data from these instruments.
- Strongly preferred electrical qualifications:
- Certification in hand soldering in compliance with J‑STD‑0001 space addendum.
- Prior experience with electrical fabrication and re‑work equipment, including solder stations.
- Prior experience with electrical measurement equipment, including voltmeters, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
