The Opportunity

Join CACI’s innovative Optical and Photonic Solutions (OPS) team as a Photonic Assembly and Test Technician. OPS is dedicated to developing custom photonic hardware for US Government applications. In this role, you will contribute to the development and construction of photonic hardware, supporting both research and development laboratory efforts and production programs.

Responsibilities
  • Fabrication and Integration:
Independently fabricate intricate fiber optic subassemblies and integrate them with electrical and mechanical components for breadboard, prototype, and production units.
  • Testing and Documentation:
Perform optical and electrical testing as specified by work instructions. Organize, document, and present data for review and analysis by design and test engineers.
  • Transition Support:
Collaborate with engineers to support the transition of photonic subsystem designs into production. Assemble test sets and test fixtures as required by the program.
  • Resource Management:
Request material and equipment needed for assembly and testing. Maintain laboratory and equipment.
  • Quality Compliance:
Ensure compliance with OPS’ quality system.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s degree in engineering or a closely related technical field, or equivalent combination of education, skill, and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of “hands‑on” photonic or electrical fabrication, test, and measurement experience.
  • Ability to follow detailed work instructions or test procedures.
  • Prior experience with custom fine assembly.
  • Must be computer savvy and a competent user of Microsoft Office products.
  • Good interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person able to receive export‑controlled information.

Desired:

  • Strongly desired photonic qualifications.
  • Prefer candidates who have worked in photonics R&D and have experience with high power (> 1 W) fiber amplifiers or lasers.
  • Prior experience with optical fiber fusion splicers, cleavers, and re‑coaters.
  • Prior experience or demonstrated knowledge in the use and operation of passive fiber optic components such as splitters, WDMs, and isolators.
  • Prior experience or demonstrated knowledge in the use and operation of active optoelectronic devices such as semiconductor laser diodes, photodiodes, and modulators.
  • Proficient in the use of lightwave measurement equipment, including power detectors, optical spectrum analyzers, polarization‑extinction ratio meters, polarimeters, and optical time domain reflectometers. Skilled in analyzing and interpreting data from these instruments.
  • Strongly preferred electrical qualifications:
    • Certification in hand soldering in compliance with J-STD-0001 space addendum.
    • Prior experience with electrical fabrication and re‑work equipment, including solder stations.
    • Prior experience with electrical measurement equipment, including voltmeters, multi‑meters, and oscilloscopes.
