Job OverviewThe Senior Reactor Operator – License Class position prepares for the role of Operations Unit Supervisor. Employees undergo a six‑month commercial nuclear experience program before progressing through the Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) training, NRC SRO license exam, and Control Room Supervisor Training. Successful completion leads to assignment as Unit Supervisor, directing licensed operators and maintaining safety standards.
Responsibilities- Supervise operations personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant equipment operation.
- Analyze complex plant activities, providing operations focus and ensuring error‑free performance.
- Respond to plant indicators and alarms per plant procedures, initiating appropriate actions.
- Perform operations in accordance with administrative procedures and NRC license, including shift turnovers and log maintenance.
- Maintain operating records to document activities and responses to unusual conditions, as required by NRC specifications.
- Coordinate and control maintenance and testing activities, ensuring scheduled tasks are completed.
- Maintain and improve human performance in operations and across the station.
- Develop constructive relationships with regulatory agencies and other departments.
- Act in a station leadership role, supporting refueling activities.
- Complete training courses, instruction, events, simulations, and on‑job performance expectations, and perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- At least one of the following:
- Previously held a Senior Reactor Operator license for an operating nuclear power plant.
- Previously held a Reactor Operator License for an operating nuclear power plant.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Science (as defined by R.G. 1.8 Revision
3). - Experience as licensed operator training instructor with an SRO certification.
- Two years military experience in a position equivalent to a reactor operator.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- ACAD 10‑001 guidelines for initial training and qualification of licensed operators apply.
- Nuclear‑plant experience: 18 months at a comparable facility for BS holders, or 27 months for non‑comparable facilities.
- Rotating shift work.
- Successful completion of a Licensed Operator Physical.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted Nuclear Access, including participation in the Fitness for Duty Program.
- Successful completion of the SRO license class and attainment of NRC SRO license.
