Work You Will Do
  • Perform the reconciliation of Department Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR) records to State Accounts for cash receipts and cash disbursements, ensuring agreement with State Accounts and notifying personnel of issues.
  • Periodically review trial balances for anomalies (e.g., atypical balances, incorrect GL code usage, accrual indicator misuse) and alert relevant personnel.
  • Assist in annual year‑end closing processes, preparing or reviewing necessary financial reporting entries, maintaining clear supporting documentation for audit purposes, and submitting required financial statement forms within established time frames.
  • Provide assistance to Department staff in establishing new FLAIR accounting codes and help understand codes and transactions.
  • Assist budget coordinators, district accountants, and other fiscal staff in analyzing FLAIR data and related reports, and train users to ensure accurate corrective entries.
  • Perform monthly reconcilations of bid protest and cash performance bonds, advances, accounts payable, intra/inter‑funds, payroll transactions, and the Receipt Processing System.
  • Reconcile Department clearing and revolving funds, including reconciling bank cash to FLAIR revolving fund balances.
  • Research and complete special projects as assigned, submitting results to supervisor promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of
  • Florida Accounting Information Resource (FLAIR), Governmental Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting (GAAFR), GAAP, and State Chief Financial Officer’s operating procedures.
  • Accounting and auditing theory, standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Accounting systems.
  • Internal control concepts.
  • Reconciliation procedures and processes.
Skills in
  • Balancing and reconciling accounts in accordance with GAAP or applicable legal requirements.
  • Using computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications efficiently.
  • Preparing supporting schedules for agency and statewide financial statements in accordance with GAAP or another comprehensive basis, identifying errors and providing guidance on corrective actions.
  • Analyzing processes to ensure they are performed most efficiently and effectively.
Ability to
  • Research and interpret accounting literature, rules, and pronouncements.
  • Examine, audit, review, analyze, and evaluate financial and operational data.
  • Prepare financial statement working papers and schedules.
  • Utilize problem‑solving techniques.
  • Perform reconciliations and research and resolve discrepancies.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct activities independently with minimal supervision.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance procedures and controls.
  • Exercise proper judgment.
  • Work effectively with other department offices, other State agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of work‑related experience in an accounting or auditing related field, or a college degree in a business‑related field, can be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
