Role Overview

Summary The Graduate Assistant for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Institute for Immigration Studies provides essential administrative, programmatic, and operational support to advance each unit’s mission and initiatives. The graduate assistant works closely with the Director of the Adrian Dominican Institute for Mission, Teaching and Learning, and the Director of the Institute for Immigration Studies. The role includes supporting events and professional development programs and maintaining digital platforms, communications, and program resources.

The Graduate Assistant also supervises undergraduate student workers and contributes to grant applications and fund-raising initiatives.

Essential Functions
  • Provide administrative support to the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning’s leadership team, the CETL Faculty Fellows, and affiliated initiatives. Coordinate scheduling and logistics for meetings and learning communities, maintain accurate records and documents, and support clear and consistent communication across the team. Contribute to the development and reporting of annual goals and outcomes and facilitate engagement of CETL Faculty Liaisons through organized communication and coordination of their participation in CETL initiatives.
  • Provide logistical support for events sponsored by the Institute for Immigration Studies, including coordination of event promotion and registration, catering, venue booking and preparation, and the development of program materials. Ensure smooth event execution by assisting with on‑site coordination and post‑event follow‑up, including clean‑up and resource distribution. Support key initiatives such as the annual Immigration Conference, citizenship drives, exhibition premieres, and community forums.
  • Supervise and provide professional development and support to undergraduate students working with the Institute for Immigration Studies, supporting their development as engaged student leaders. Supervise Federal Work‑Study students and design team‑building and training activities to prepare them for their roles. Provide ongoing support to student leaders connected to IIS initiatives, fostering collaboration, leadership development, and meaningful participation in programmatic efforts.
  • Provide technical and logistical support for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning’s remote professional development programs, including remote facilitation of workshops and webinars through Microsoft Teams and other videoconferencing platforms. Assist with promotion and registration, record and archive sessions, and distribute digital materials to participants. Support the tracking of participation and the coordination of certification processes.
  • Maintain and update the digital platforms and resources of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Institute for Immigration Studies. Contribute to the development and post website content, organize Microsoft Teams channels and shared files, and ensure the accuracy and accessibility of digital materials. Manage Corq organizational information, including membership records and event postings, to support effective communication and engagement.
  • Support the development of financial resources for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning and the Institute for Immigration Studies by researching and identifying grant opportunities and other funding sources aligned with each unit’s priorities.
