Position: COMMUNICATIONS & OUTREACH MANAGER
Location: Tallahassee

Talquin Electric Cooperative, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Communications & Outreach Manager . The requirements for this position are as follows: A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Communications, 5 years in writing, editing, public relations or related field, or an equivalent combination of a 2-year degree, training and experience. Requires demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with managers, employees and the public.

Must have efficient business skills including the ability to prepare all types of correspondence, skills in grammar, spelling and punctuation, editing and proof reading. Requires demonstrated computer skills including the ability to enter and extract information. Must be proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software, editing and graphic design software and possess the ability to become proficient with the Cooperative’s computer systems and software.

Requires ability to research topics and present in written and verbal form to various audiences. Requires the ability to effectively prepare presentations, speak in public and participate in activities after routine working hours on a regular basis. Requires demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, and planning and organizational skills; the ability to work efficiently and effectively without direct supervision.

Requires the ability to be responsive and persuasive at all levels of the organization and ability to handle Cooperative issues in a confidential and tactful manner. Requires a valid driver’s license.

Must be able to pass Cooperative physical examination as well as pre-employment drug screen and background check. Must live at a primary residence located within a 30 minute drive, as determined solely by management, of any Talquin Electric office facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform duties in a safe, satisfactory, competent and timely manner.
  • Oversee production of the Cooperative's monthly newsletter, including proactive development and scheduling of content which may require visits to active job sites to photograph and interview employees.
  • Research and write articles for Membership Education and Employee updates, photograph industry related activities, catalogue photographs for historical record.
  • Oversee the Cooperative’s website and social media.
  • Assist with Member Relations, coordinating Public Relation campaigns, administering communication crisis management.
  • Develop, train and supervise Communications and Outreach Specialist(s).
  • Participate in local civic club(s) acceptable to the Cooperative.
  • Communicate and build relationships with local, state and federal elected officials.
  • Attend legislative events and give updates as needed.
  • Participate in local Chamber of Commerce meetings and functions.
  • Participate in Economic Development Council meetings and functions in the Cooperative’s four-county service territory.
  • Oversee statewide and National Youth Tour programs, including but not limited to communicating effectively with parents of students and high school administrators, marketing the program to highlight Cooperative outreach efforts, and planning and executing the selection process for the tour of Washington D.C.
  • Represent the Cooperative in Media Communications via newspapers, radio, TV, etc.
  • Research news releases and articles relating to industry or Cooperative and distribute to appropriate staff.
  • Attend Board of Trustees meetings as requested by the General Manager or the Director of Member Services.
  • Assist the Director of Member Services in coordinating all employee gatherings and other matters as directed.
  • Develop and distribute internal management or administrative updates, newsletters, or the like that are aimed toward informing the Cooperative’s employees and their families.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
