Economic Consultant – SES
Under the limited supervision of the Economic Manager (Economic Research and Analysis Administrator), this position supervises a group of researchers in Economic Analysis by overseeing and assisting in the direction of labor market, economic, and census data analysis in addition to preparing economic impact analyses, monthly press releases, Frequently Asked Questions, labor supply analysis, labor market area profiles and industry profiles, housing statistics, minimum wage, employment projections, and PowerPoint presentations.
Performs labor market, economic, and census statistical analysis. Remains current on statistical methods and procedures. Maintains statistical standards of reliability. Assists in the direction, design, and analysis of statistically valid surveys. Remains current on national and state economic/labor market conditions. Assists in the direction and preparation of PowerPoint presentations, economic impact analysis, ad‑hoc employer surveys, job vacancy surveys, state and area press releases.
Responds to requests for information via e‑mail, phone, mail, etc.
Supervises staff and assists with the analysis and dissemination of labor market data. Assists in training and evaluating staff, and assigns workload, determines priorities, and meets all assigned deadlines. Prioritizes projects for staff and reviews and edits staff work prior to finalizing. Maintains high standards of statistical accuracy and data integrity.
Assists in the direction of the production of labor market analysis reports. Meets all analysis standards and properly sources all data items. Uses proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling on all documents. Uses plain language when explaining technical methods as much as possible.
The Economic Consultant SES leads the Economic Research and Analysis section’s Labor Market Analysis unit in the Bureau of Workforce Statistics and Economic Research (WSER), Division of Workforce Services.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge SQL, R programming, and any Web software applications.
- Knowledge of statistical methods.
- Knowledge of data collection techniques, ability to understand data.
- Ability to supervise and motivate staff.
Qualifications:
As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or related Social Science.
- Duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.
- Travel may be required.
- Master’s degree or above in Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
- One year of supervisory experience in a research environment.
$65,000 - $75,000 annually
