substance abuse and mental health (samh) program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The office of samh is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

specific duties and responsibilities include:

the focus is centered around mining, analyzing, and visualizing data by leveraging advanced analytical/statistical techniques often from separate databases/sources. This role will also be expected to help draft narratives around analytics and create visual representations of findings. Key responsibilities of this position encompass data analysis and evaluation and providing consultation and subject matter expertise regarding trends and patterns impacting programs managed by the department.

data analysis: mine data and metadata from primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, then reorganize the data in a format that can be easily read. Use statistical tools to interpret data sets, paying particular attention to trends and patterns that could be valuable for diagnostic and predictive analytics efforts. Develop advanced quantitative models using a variety of tools to support predictive assessments.

Identify business problems or management objectives that can be addressed through data analysis. Identify relationships and trends or any factors that could affect the results of research. Test, validate, and reformulate models to ensure accurate prediction of outcomes of interest.
reporting: create appropriate documentation that allows stakeholders to understand the steps of the data analysis process and duplicate or replicate the analysis if necessary. Communicate model behavior and results to samh executive leadership and other stakeholders. Deliver oral or written presentations of the results of mathematical modeling and data analysis to management or other end users.
