Job Description
The purpose of this document is to provide expectations for the Substation Manager’s job role.
Responsibilities- Prioritizes and enforces safety protocols on the job site, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry standards
- Broad understanding of company policies and procedures
- Coordinates with engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed effectively
- Performs inspections, maintains QA/QC documents, and audits construction quality, ensuring adherence to standards and specifications
- Maintains open communication with team members, clients, and other stakeholders throughout the project
- Keeps detailed records of construction activities, progress reports, and safety inspections
- Has experience in leading and managing construction, including monitoring tasks, providing feedback, and resolving conflicts
- Possesses vast knowledge of electrical schematics, mechanical, civil, and steel structural drawings
- Understands safety regulations and practices, identifying and mitigating hazards
- Can identify and resolve issues that may arise during construction, keeping the project on track
- Is familiar with concrete work, flat foundations, drill piers, breaker pads, and GSU containment pits
- Works with EPC to resolve requests for information (RFI) and change orders
- Performs material procurement and material take‑offs
- Reviews projects after completion, reporting successes, lessons learned, and improvement opportunities
- Is able to work safely near equipment energized at hazardous voltage levels
- Can lift and carry tools, equipment, and materials in hazardous environments and across uneven ground
- Maintains a clean and organized work area
- Promotes open communication with direct reports to enhance teamwork and report issues
- Is proficient with computer software, including MS Office (Excel, Word, Project) and potentially specialized substation construction software
- Supports commissioning efforts through energization
