Chief Estimator

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief Estimator to lead all estimating functions across a growing construction operation. This individual will be responsible for overseeing preconstruction efforts, developing competitive and accurate pricing strategies, and building and managing a high-performing estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the estimating department, including senior estimators and support staff
• Oversee all preconstruction activities from conceptual budgeting through final bid submission
• Develop accurate cost estimates for a wide range of projects (commercial, healthcare, industrial, or multifamily)
• Drive value engineering and cost-saving strategies while maintaining quality and scope integrity
• Review plans, specifications, and proposals to ensure complete and competitive pricing
• Establish and maintain relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners
• Collaborate with executive leadership, project management, and business development teams
• Analyze market trends, labor conditions, and material pricing to inform estimating strategies
• Participate in client presentations, interviews, and proposal development
• Implement best practices, processes, and tools to improve estimating accuracy and efficiency

Qualifications

• 10-15+ years of construction estimating experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
• Proven track record leading estimates for large-scale, complex projects
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and cost drivers
• Experience with a variety of project types (healthcare experience strongly preferred)
• Exceptional leadership and team development skills
• High level of financial and analytical acumen
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar)
• Strong communication and negotiation skills
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
