The Trending/Breaking/Video Reporter
Cover a wide and fast‑moving range of topics, including:
- Crime and public safety
- Traffic and weather developments
- Breaking business news, including openings and closings
- High‑interest, trending topics of the day
Responsibilities
• Quickly identify and execute on timely, high‑interest news and be first in market on major breaking stories whenever possible.
• Produce writing, video, and photos for almost every story, sometimes filming video‑only content.
• Build sources, conduct interviews, and access public records (police reports, body‑camera footage, surveillance video) to support stories.
• Analyze data and use analytics tools (e.g., Google Trends) and social media to identify emerging topics and audience interests.
• Request user‑generated content from social platforms and other sources.
• Embrace artificial intelligence as a tool to improve reporting and efficiency.
• Localize national and state stories, collaborate across the network (e.g., Connect team), and create alternate URLs from existing stories.
• Occasionally report in the field on topics ranging from business openings and closings to major breaking news, including hurricanes and tent‑pole events.
• Work scheduled Tuesdays through Saturdays.
