OPS Museum Education Representative (Wardrobe Manager)

This role works with the Mission’s team to produce new wardrobe pieces and maintain existing clothing for educational and public history programs at Mission San Luis. The position is open to full‑time and part‑time applicants and will be paid at $18.00 per hour.

Responsibilities- Construct 17th‑century‑style garments using historical and modern sewing techniques.
- Consult with the Site Historian/Curator to ensure accuracy and wearability of 17th‑century clothing representative of the period.
- Perform repairs, alterations, and laundering of all wardrobe items.
- Read and interpret historical patterns with minimal direction.
- Measure and fit historical wardrobe for interpreters and staff.
- Create pattern portfolios within the Wardrobe Manual.
- Manage the fabric collection and oversee purchases, inventory, and proper fitting.
- Assist staff with logistics for public programs; cross‑train in front‑of‑house, gift shop, education, and rentals teams.
- Perform related duties as required.
- 4 years equivalent professional or volunteer experience, or a Bachelor of Arts in history, theater, fine arts, textiles, or related fields.
- Minimum one additional year in a professional sewing environment such as a costume or tailor shop.

- Additional two years in a professional sewing environment.
- Experience working with a sewing machine and hand‑sewing techniques.
- Interest in 17th‑century clothing and material culture.
- Knowledge of clothing design, construction, and social history.
- Skill with sewing and tailoring.
- Understanding of historical clothing terminology.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to design and fabricate garments.
- Ability to learn complex historical concepts and interpret lesson plans, activities, and presentations.
- Proficiency in inventory management and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Florida history and museum terminology, research, and programs.
- Public speaking and willingness to give tours or presentations.
- Excellent customer service and collegial relationship skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; multi‑task, problem‑solve, attention to detail.
A Level 2 criminal background check is required. If selected, you must provide fingerprints to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the FBI.
