Job SummaryThe Production Technician reports to the Production & Operations Manager and operates all equipment and systems in the control room, studios, and audio booth. This 10‑week temporary position supports newscasts, promos, special events, and other broadcasts.
Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and maintain studio equipment, sets, and audio booths, ensuring all gear is functional before broadcasts.
- Prepare studio cameras, teleprompter, audio, and lighting for air.
- Work with the Director to receive, interpret, and execute directives via headset.
- Manage talent and guest microphones: charge batteries, set proper frequency, enable IFBs, and perform live audio checks.
- Verify that all studio equipment and RTS panels are correctly labeled for live or taped broadcasts.
- Update music request playlists daily as directed by executive producers.
- Know camera blocking positions for newscasts and assist with camera blocking.
- Perform minor repairs on IFBs, microphones, monitors, and audio boards as necessary.
- Operate the teleprompter for talent when required.
- Maintain knowledge of Sony ELC coding and show execution for on‑air continuity.
- Maintain audio booth, prop room, cameras, and prompters; keep the studio clean and safe after broadcasts.
- Communicate effectively with talent, producers, and crew in a professional manner.
- MCR Operator responsibilities:
- Operate Master Control and Evertz Mediator automation system, switching programming and commercials.
- Tune and troubleshoot satellite receivers, record programs, and spot‑check quality.
- Operate remote transmitter and monitor audio/video levels to FCC specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot technical problems, prepare detailed reports, and communicate solutions clearly.
- Transfer programming and commercials from server to automation system and check segment timing.
- Perform FCC compliance procedures and maintain high quality control.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry changes.
- Address other duties as assigned.
- Maintain regular attendance and complete non‑exempt timesheets accurately and on deadline.
- Work varied hours, including holidays, weekends, and during severe weather situation as required.
Physical Requirements
Stand, walk, sit, reach, and handle equipment up to 10 pounds. Perform occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Maintain vision for close and distance tasks, including color vision and focus adjustment.
QualificationsExperience in the master control and news production environment.
EducationCollege degree or two years equivalent experience in broadcast industry.
Ability to operate a broad range of production equipment is required.
CompensationPay range: $18.00–$20.00 per hour, final offer dependent on education, skills, experience, and location.
