Position: Instructional Specialist in Percussion, 9 Month Salaried - College of Music
Location: Tallahassee

Department

This position is in the Winds & Percussion area at the College of Music, working closely with FSU Bands and the Marching Chiefs.

Responsibilities
  • Instructs and supervises all aspects of Marching Chiefs Drum Line to include rehearsals, sectionals, musical arrangements, recruitment, and retention.
  • Directs Freshman/Sophomore Percussion Ensemble. Co-directs FSU Percussion Ensemble (FSUPE).
  • Instructs and supervises all aspects of the 1901 Renegade Drums rope drum ensemble to include rehearsals, music, maintenance, and scheduling among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Instructs Percussion Methods class during Marching Percussion module in coordination with graduate teaching assistants in Percussion.
  • Oversees instrument maintenance for rehearsals, home games, away games as scheduled, special events, recording sessions, concerts, and other related athletic band events.
  • Coordinates with industry contacts to maintain and procure inventory for both Marching Chiefs and Seminole Sound athletic bands.
  • Coordinates and social media content for FSUPE, FSU Marching Chiefs Big 8 Drumline, The 1901 Renegade Drums, and other marketing projects upon request.
  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to design elective coursework in Rudimental History Techniques and Arranging for Contemporary Marching Percussion. Demonstrated interest in and ability to contribute to existing Music Education courses to include Marching Band Techniques, Arranging for Marching Percussion, Percussion Pedagogy, etc.
  • Teaches Applied Percussion to underclassmen, assists in recruitment and general administration of the FSU Percussion Studio, and oversees short- and long-term instrument inventory and maintenance within the percussion facilities.
Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Percussion Performance or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated record of successful university-level teaching to include instruction and supervision of marching band percussion/drumline.
