School of Dance

Responsible for the management of all area activities resulting in the artistic execution of costumes and designs. Costume consultation and/or design for faculty and guest works for School of Dance productions and occasional special projects. Consultation and guidance in costume design choices for students, especially for MFA final projects.

Advisement and coordination with outside designers if utilized for faculty, guest, or MFA final projects. Coordination and implementation of costume designs for faculty and guest works, whether new construction, purchase, adaptation, or reuse of stock. This could include material acquisition, dying, draping, cutting, stitching, craft work, and fittings.

Support and guidance on costuming student projects, including assistance with coordination, acquisition, and training. Management and coordination of the use of costume stock. Development, training, and enforcement of procedures surrounding all aspects of costuming for the School.

Responsible for the creation, interpretation, and/or execution of costume designs. Responsible for all aspects of costumes, to include, but not limited to:

• Ensuring accurate measurements for all performers, maintaining structural and artistic integrity of all costuming.
• Selection of and procurement of all fabrics and related materials.
• Overseeing sewing and costume fittings, finishing and trimming of costume pieces, and supervising all costume repairs and adjustments during rehearsals, dress parades, and performances.
• Oversees the costume area's execution of designs in alignment with the program curriculum.

Provides instructions to students working in the shop. Assist in the production of costumes to include: drape, cut, fit, and sewing of costumes. Ensure graduate and undergraduate students working for degree credits are receiving an integrated experience between classroom and studio spaces. Assist with craft work and special costume construction techniques as necessary.

Monitor budgets for costume materials, maintenance, and labor. Purchase goods and services via P-card as related to the Costume Shop, costume construction and wardrobe maintenance. Provides budget forecasting for future costume projects and needs. Coordinates all purchase orders, invoices, and related expense activity as it relates to the Costume Shop with School of Dance administration. Supervises, evaluates and trains student workers and occasional staff.

Keeps accurate record of all staff and student help.

• A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. (

  a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
• A valid State of Florida or Georgia Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

• Significant experience in costume design and construction specific to dance.
• Proficient in computer application knowledge.
