Job DescriptionVA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Scope of Duties:
The Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of oral & maxillofacial surgery and limited general dentistry procedures. Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following:
- Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and its adjacent tissue and structures.
- Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions.
- Orders and/or interprets diagnostic measures, such as radiographic images, other imaging, models, etc.
- Administer local anesthesia.
- Complete dento-alveolar surgery, including simple, surgical, and complex exodontia, pre-prosthetic surgery, bone grafting, sinus and ridge augmentation, vestibuloplasty and implant placement procedures.
- Accomplish and arrange for patient consultation, work-up, admission, medical/dental specialty and inter-disciplinary care, completion of surgical procedures, and provide for post-operative and follow-up care of patients presenting with illnesses, injuries, and disorders of both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral & maxillofacial regions.
- Complete oral & maxillofacial surgical procedures including but not limited to treatment of facial traumatic injuries/facial fractures, treatment of pathological conditions such as benign cysts/tumors, orthognathic surgery, biopsy procedures, and TMJ surgery.
- Provides clinical supervision, treatment planning, and educational activities related to the Dental Service AEGD-1 Residency Program and to dental staff assigned to their clinic location as needed.
- Adheres to safety, health, and infection control standards, and demonstrates knowledge in the use and reprocessing of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME).
- Responsible for clinic administration in compliance with VHA, Medical Center and Dental Service Directives, Policies and Procedures.
