To serve as a summer academy instructor for Upward Bound Madison to enhance learning and prepare them for success in the upcoming year. The summer program involves instructing students in grades 9-12 in academic subjects to enhance learning and prepare them for academic success. The right candidate will demonstrate willingness, patience, and a passion for the student s advancement in post-secondary education.
Innovative, hands-on activities, creative curriculum, and technology use are encouraged.
Upward Bound is a federally funded pre-collegiate program for high school students. The program is designed to motivate and prepare students, with academic potential, for success in education beyond high school.
Responsibilities:
- Provide classroom instruction for the assigned subject area in accordance with overall program objectives. Develop and plan lesson plans for grades 9-12.
- Mentor students in preparation for college, providing leadership, information, and guidance about college and careers
- Help students develop good study skills and test taking strategies
- Participate in the Upward Bound team activities, attend training sessions, meetings, field trips and other events as necessary
- Develop an enduring & trusting relationship with participants
- Maintain punctual attendance and be committed to the entire summer program dates
- Other tasks assigned by UB-Madison Director and Program Coordinator as deemed necessary.
- Bachelor's degree in education, or related field (Mathematics, Science, English, Social Science)
- Experience teaching, counseling, or tutoring
- Dynamic and highly interactive person to engage with and teach high school students

Anticipated Salary RangeStarting at $22 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
ConsiderationsThis is an OPS/temporary job.
Based on the duties, this position may require completion of a criminal history background check.
The schedule is 12 hours per week, open availability.
