This role is an integral part of a successful transition for incoming NCF students. This position offers the unique opportunity for growth and to foster a positive New College atmosphere. This role will be instrumental in facilitating the Orientation program in conjunction with the New Student Programs.
Responsibilities- Facilitate new students’ introduction to the College by maintaining an open, helpful attitude and using effective communication techniques.
- Answer questions about both social and academic aspects of the New College experience.
- Attend spring and summer training prior to Orientation.
- Be on time when expected.
- Promote interaction among groups of new students during small group discussions, icebreakers, meals and activities.
- Facilitate small group interactions on various topics including mini-classes, contracts, and student life.
- Supervise activities among new students through direct involvement and participation.
- Work closely and cooperate with other OLs and New Student Program staff to develop, prepare, implement, and evaluate Orientation programs; OLs will also work closely with other student leaders on campus including Resident Advisors, Peer Mentors, and NCSA Representatives.
- Be available in person to lead student Orientation groups and all other duties as assigned.
- Exhibit excitement for NCF and the campus culture with a strong desire to aid in the successful transition for NCF students and their families.
- Agree to abide by professional and ethical standards of conduct, including but not limited to College regulations.
- Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of team members and diverse populations of students and families.
- Possess a willingness to learn new things and be adaptable to changing plans if the need arises.
- Possess the ability to learn about NCF systems and the inner workings of the College.
- Act in a leadership role within your small group setting and take ownership of extra duties assigned.
- Possess the ability to address crowds and give directions to incoming students.
- Must be in good conduct standing with the college.
- Must satisfy your contract for the Spring 2024 term.
- Must be a full‑time undergraduate student and must not graduate prior to the Fall 2024 semester.
