Florida A&M University's School of Architecture and Engineering Technology at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for a tenure-track, nine-month appointment, Associate Professor vacancy.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate and graduate design studios
- Teach lecture courses and seminars in an area of expertise (building technology, architectural history, architectural theory, urban design, or professional practice)
- Develop a research agenda that can secure external funding
- Engage in scholarly and/or creative activities leading to peer‑reviewed publications
- Provide service to the School and University and contribute to program development
- Provide exceptional customer service to all students as SAET faculty member
- Complete all school‑or university‑related meeting requests, seminars, workshops, trainings, and other notices as necessary
- Serve in an administrative role as Program Coordinator or Director, and other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean
Semester work requirements and schedules must be discussed with the Supervisor (Division Architecture Director) to ensure that work priorities are exceptionally completed. Concerns about any additional responsibilities should be discussed first with the Supervisor and then with the Dean.
Minimum Qualifications- A NAAB‑accredited Architecture degree or its international equivalent.
- Professional license to practice architecture or PhD.
- Four years of full‑time architectural teaching experience as the faculty of record.
- Two years of professional experience as an architect or under a registered professional.
Interest in Program Administration responsibilities.
Recommended Competencies- Expertise in architectural design: innovative designers, dedicated educators, and strong researchers who are prepared to thrive within a highly‑competitive university.
- Expertise in studio design instruction.
- Expertise may include full‑scale fabrication, design/build practices, digital design and visualization, housing, practice, and/or other areas of funded research and peer‑reviewed publication.
- A NAAB‑accredited Master of Architecture degree, its international equivalent, or an advanced degree at the Doctorate level.
- Professional license to practice architecture or PhD.
- Six years of full‑time architectural teaching experience as the faculty of record.
- Four years of administrative experience in academia.
- Demonstration of excellence in design studio teaching, research, or creative work.
- Demonstration of the ability to secure external funding.
- Demonstration of the ability to produce peer‑reviewed scholarship.
Commensurate with education and experience.
Licenses and CertificationsProfessional license and/or Ph.D. is highly desirable, as is previous design studio teaching, peer‑reviewed research (peer‑reviewed publications, externally‑funded research, and/or other evidence of scholarly production), and/or professional experience. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence of the academic community.
