Elementary School, Special Education Teacher
Location: Newberry
Newberry Community School is seeking an energetic and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to develop and implement a balanced program of physical education, health, and fitness. This role promotes student growth and overall wellness within a positive learning environment while ensuring alignment with district, state, and federal standards.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelors degree from an approved accredited educational institution.
- Certified or qualified in accordance with Florida Statutes and State Board Rules.
- Meet Federal High Qualified Guidelines, as applicable
- Knowledge of child development, especially the characteristics of students in the assigned age group
- Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum
- Knowledge of current educational research, particularly in the field of physical education, health, and fitness
- Knowledge of the Code of Ethics and Principles of Professional Conduct
- Basic understanding and practical use of current technology
- Knowledge of learning styles and ability to use varied teaching methods to address them
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and others
- Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness
- Ability to assess student achievement, analyze results, and prescribe actions for improvement
- Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment
- Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others
- Knowledge of basic first aid and health and safety requirements of a physical education program
- Ability to work and teach outdoors for extended periods of time
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons that address the needs of all learners.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies, materials, and technologies to support student growth.
- Differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs, including ESE and ESOL students.
- Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
- Set clear expectations for behavior and use appropriate interventions aligned with school policies.
- Conduct regular formative and summative assessments to measure student progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, assessments, and classroom performance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grades, attendance, and student performance.
- Analyze student achievement data to identify trends, address gaps, and adjust instruction.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding academic progress, behavior, and concerns.
- Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and administrators to improve instructional practices and outcomes.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional learning communities, and school-wide initiatives.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, professional training, and school events as required.
- Supervise students during non-classroom activities such as lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal, as assigned.
- Support extracurricular programs, field trips, clubs, or school activities as needed.
- Implement and adhere to all school, Board, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in compliance with Florida and Federal law.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support school operations.
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently, and up to 10 lbs. continuously to move objects or materials.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and perform classroom duties requiring mobility and physical presence.
- Salary and benefits shall be set by the Board.
- 10-month position.
