Job Overview

To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with District philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Certified by the State of Florida in the appropriate area.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of child development and characteristics of children in the assigned age group.
  • Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum and current educational research.
  • Basic understanding of current technology.
  • Knowledge of learning styles; skill in using varied teaching methods.
  • Skill in oral and written communication with students, parents, and others.
  • Ability to plan and implement activities for maximum effectiveness and to assess student achievement.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate student supervision and a safe learning environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with peers, administrators, and others.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Planning/Preparation:
    Create long-range plans, define learning goals, develop lesson and unit plans, revise plans based on student needs, plan and prepare a variety of learning activities, develop or select instructional activities that foster active involvement, plan lessons aligned with state standards, select and adapt materials, especially technology resources.
  • Classroom Management:
    Establish and maintain a positive, organized, and safe learning environment; encourage positive engagement; maintain academic focus; apply proper behavior management techniques; establish routines and procedures.
  • Assessment/Evaluation:
    Establish appropriate testing environment, administer standardized tests, develop diagnostic assessments, use ongoing assessments to monitor learning, track student progress, provide feedback, communicate progress to students, parents, and colleagues, evaluate instructional effectiveness.
  • Student Instructional Engagement:
    Demonstrate curriculum content knowledge, communicate high expectations, provide clear learning goals, give feedback and reinforcement, use varied strategies for diverse learners, engage students in critical thinking, facilitate linkage of new content, assist with information utilization, provide instruction for special needs, create meaningful learning experiences, facilitate hypothesis testing, foster responsibility and respect, recognize student distress and intervene.
  • Technology:
    Use appropriate technology in lessons, create active learning environments, provide technology opportunities, facilitate electronic resource access, evaluate new technologies, use technology for assessment and administrative tasks.
  • Collaboration:

    Communicate effectively with professionals, students, parents, and community; collaborate on curriculum development and student needs; provide timely academic and behavioral information.
  • Professional Learning:
    Engage in continuous professional development, assist others, stay updated on instructional trends, conduct self-assessment for PD needs, participate in school data collection.
  • Professional Responsibilities:
    Act ethically and professionally, comply with Code of Ethics, handle reports, maintain punctuality, attendance, record confidentiality, comply with policies, use professional judgment, support improvement initiatives.
  • Student Growth and Achievement:
    Ensure continuous and appropriate growth across subjects and classifications.
  • Miscellaneous:
    Perform incidental tasks consistent with the role.
Physical Requirements

Light work:
May lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and up to 10 lbs frequently to move objects.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits are consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length and hours are established by the District.

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.
