Are you passionate about giving back to the community and want to take on a professional role within Sarasota County Libraries? Our Fruitville Library branch has an opportunity for a Youth Services Librarian. In this role, you will coordinate Youth Services programs/projects for youth ages 0‑18 with a focus on Children (Birth to 11), their families, and early literacy. Other responsibilities include providing customer service, acting as Person in Charge of the Facilities at times, and coordinating collections.

While the primary focus will be leadership in Youth Services, the librarian will also work with youth and adults in intergenerational programming. In the team environment, employees will participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contribute to decision‑making, and evaluate progress. This position starts out paying $58,947.20, and benefits begin within 30 days of hire.

Our librarians are known for customer service, programming, outreach, collection development/maintenance, administration, and staff development.

• Develop and implement standards of service that ensure the prompt and efficient resolution of each inquiry, delivered with the utmost respect and courtesy.
• Promote understanding and use of the library, its technology, and resources by presenting individual and group training programs.
• Assist customers by locating answers to questions, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to agencies outside the library.
• Keep abreast of developments, new trends, and innovations in libraries.
• Aid at service desks and in other sections as needed.
• Represent Sarasota County and the library/library interests to library users and within the community.
• Prepare reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional displays.
• Analyze and identify service population needs, developing and directing plans to meet those needs.
• Network with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.
• Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contributing to decision‑making and the evaluation of progress.

• This position is Full‑Time, 40 hours per week. Employees must be available to work based on business needs.
• Fruitville Library Hours of Operation:
• Monday – Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
• Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• This location is currently closed on Sunday; this could change in the future, depending upon business needs.

• Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA‑accredited college or university or from the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals.
• – OR – Bachelor’s degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within twelve months of hire.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire.

• One year of experience in a library environment.
• Skill in using various electronic devices, including Kindle, Nook, tablets, and iPads, and imparting this knowledge to customers of all ages.
• Ability to train/coach patrons in the use of technology.
• Experience working with youth (0‑18 years of age), as well as their families.

This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Starting Pay: $58,947.20 annually.
