This position is sponsored by the Florida State University College of Medicine Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (IMS) Program, but is located within the Isabel Collier Read Medical Campus in Immokalee, FL.
Responsibilities- Under the direction of the SSTRIDE Program Director, Southern Region – Assists in coordinating Collier County SSTRIDE - Immokalee programs to include program activities, development and intervention. Assures that all components, goals, objectives and student outcomes are consistent with the initiatives developed for the program.
- Specifically Responsible for visiting all Collier County SSTRIDE program sites weekly at both Immokalee Middle School and Immokalee High School.
- Responsible for coordinating operations and implementation of Collier County Rural SSTRIDE outreach programs located in the lmmokalee area middle and high schools.
- Coordinates educational trips, guest speakers, workshops, and test-prep classes.
- Works directly with the Executive Director of Outreach and Advising, the Program Director for the Southern Region, and the Regional Director of the Isabel Collier Read Medical Campus in Immokalee, to review activities related to recruitment and retention of rural precollege students.
- Coordinates new applicant recruitment process annually which includes reviewing of applications, test scores, transcripts, teacher recommendations, and students' personal essays.
- Liaison between Collier County Public Schools, College of Medicine and established partnerships within the community.
- Liaison between students, college mentors, parents, teachers, school guidance counselors, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure continuous program success (matriculation into a 4-year institution or community college).
- Forms partnerships within the community (community college and universities, hospitals, clinics, physicians) that would provide volunteer and shadowing opportunities for students.
- Trains and oversees mentors.
- Helps to monitor teachers using the SSTRIDE program model.
- Responsible for documenting summaries of all site visits, program activities and student interactions.
- Collects progress reports and report cards, reviews and develops intervention plans for those students falling below a “B” average.
- Maintains student progress logs and makes recommendations for improvements to students' overall academic performance.
- Works with confidential student data (grades, test scores, mentor/teacher comments) and is responsible for ensuring all FERPA rules are followed.
- Supervises OPS mentors for Collier County.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle to travel to SSTRIDE locations.
- Conducts advising activities for middle and high school students to include designing academic plans for students which includes advising students individually and/or in groups on matters related to appropriate programs of study and choice of individual courses for matriculation from middle to high school and high school to college.
- Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to six years. (

post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.) - Requires valid FL Driver's License or the ability to obtain one prior to hire and reliable transportation to move from site to site.
Master's degree in Science, Counseling, Health, or Higher Education preferred.
