Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Florida Educator’s Certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.
  • Highly qualified as per NCLB guidelines.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check.
  • ESOL Endorsement/Certification preferred.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals.
  • Knowledge of current Human Resources leave system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable) or willingness to learn new technology practices.
  • Knowledge of general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, or physiology according to subject and level assigned.
  • Ability to utilize technology in facilitating instruction.
  • Willingness to work with others and respond constructively to feedback; work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Use in-class assessments to shape lessons and drive instruction.
  • Enforce 100% engagement in a classroom of scholars at all times and utilize behavior management strategies to set and maintain clear expectations.

To develop in each pupil an awareness of the role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge of scientific facts and principles, and skills in scientific methods of problem solving; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in scientific fields.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students.
  • Establish high standards and expectations for all students to accept responsibility for behavior.
  • Supervise students and consistently administer rules regarding student behavior.
  • Assist students in learning to accept responsibility, demonstrate respect for people and property, and demonstrate self-discipline.
  • Teach skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through course in general science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, or physiology to secondary pupils, utilizing the course of study adopted by the state Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Plan a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions and student experiments; organize laboratory activities for optimum learning.
  • Demonstrate scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher‑prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids.
  • Keep accurate records of student attendance and behavior, including any tardiness, and submit to the administration in a timely fashion.
  • Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions, outlining expectations, and effectively bringing instruction to closure.
  • Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
  • Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
  • Provide individual and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding, and prepare progress reports.
