First United Methodist Church of Ormond Beach is seeking a full-time Student Ministries Director. First United is located a quarter mile from the beach in a growing area of Volusia County. First United is undergoing a major construction and renovation project that will significantly enhance the campus. The job description for the position is below:
Job SummaryThe Student Ministries Director is responsible for overseeing the youth program at First United, working with the Director of Family Ministries by helping youth, teenagers ages 7th – 12th grade, discover hope and deepen their faith. The Student Ministries Director will coordinate time with the youth for the purposes of worship, volunteer work, community outreach and Christian education. The Gathering Place(TGP) is part of the First United Family.
Therefore the Student Minister will work with the pastor and volunteers at TGP to develop the student ministry for TGP. The Student Ministries Director will also serve at various church programs and activities such as retreats, mission trips, overnight camps and Bible study classes that involves teenagers by helping them grow and connect with God and each other.
- High School diploma
- Minimum Associate Degree
- Experience in working with youth
- English Language
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Build relationships with youth and their parents/guardians in person, during programming, small groups, virtually and social media.
- Ability to relate to young people by earning their trust and respect.
- Ensure youth are meaningfully integrated into the worshipping community and serving life of the church.
- Design new and engaging ways for youth students to learn about life in Christ and faith values through lessons, events, and activities. This includes organizing a schedule of activities around the school calendar, including summer, and student’s schedules.
- Build relationships in the community.
- Spend time in the community and participate at events and activities where students and families gather. Required to proactively visit students at sporting events, coffee shops, gathering spots, events, high school functions etc.
- Recruit, train, develop and support volunteers for supporting all facets of Youth Ministry activities.
- Maintain volunteer database and ensure capable volunteers are trained on any and all policies and procedures dealing with the care of children and youth. Ensure compliance of said policies.
- With the assistance of the Director of Communications and Branding, promote events, activities and lessons.
- Be knowledgeable in all types of social media and be able to engage students and families via the student ministry’s social media platforms.
- Help implement the Faith Formation Plan of First United.
- Implement strategies for tracking attendance at events with expectation that attendance and engagement will increase over the duration of employment at First United.
- Growing in your faith by attending worship and Bible Studies and/or Small groups.
- Annually propose ministry budget request and manage ministry expenses and funding in line with the financial goals of First United.
- Oversee all Student Ministry assets.
