Job Description:
The primary function of this position is to provide assistance in the circulation of library materials. Serves the community and library patrons by helping them access information and answering directional and informational questions. Operates Library equipment as needed and ensures that equipment is maintained in proper working order. Evaluates materials (book donations) and services, and assists in the selection of materials for library purchase.
Assists in promoting library use, especially programs/services. Compiles and produces computerized monthly statistical usage reports.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with all functions of the Circulation Desk, including issuing library cards and checking in and out of library materials.
- Provides proactive, professional, and friendly customer service at all times, both in-person, over the telephone, or virtually.
- Works directly with the public in the provision of public service.
- Performs shelving, cleaning, and maintenance of the library material collection.
- Answers directional and informational questions of library patrons.
- Utilizes databases as needed to answer questions.
- Assists patrons in operating equipment as needed.
- Performs light cleaning and organizing of all areas in the library to ensure a professional and tidy appearance of the facility.
- Maintains and troubleshoots computer equipment.
- Verifies, processes, and receives all material orders for branch libraries and notifies librarians and patrons as received.
- Processes interlibrary loan requests for staff and patrons at other library branches; fulfills requests as needed.
- Compiles and produces computerized monthly statistical usage reports as needed.
- Assists with outreach and programming.
- Aids in the training of new personnel and the direction of staff on procedures.
- Responsible for personally knowing and following the County's Personnel Policies and Procedures, Administrative Instructions, Department Operating Procedures, and applicable Statutes and Regulations. Responsible for ensuring others also adhere to these standards.
- Performs other similar and related duties as needed.
- In the event of special, emergency, or disaster situations, employee may be required to work schedules other than those for which they are regularly scheduled in any capacity deemed appropriate.
Education and Experience:
Associate degree preferred. 3 years minimum of prior related work experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to have guidelines for work, but determine the approach for doing the work.
- Ability to perform technical or trades-based work that requires a solid understanding of statistics OR use of heavy equipment. Some of the tasks performed include participating in data collection and detailed analysis, reporting on the accomplishment of specific departmental goals and tasks.
- Ability to work in a responsive environment where co-workers or citizens bring problems for resolution. Ability to determine problems and create individual solutions for issues.
- Ability to work with less than ten co-workers who are mostly engaged in the same activities.
The work is medium and requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
- Balancing:
Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. - Crouching:
Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. - Feeling:
Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. - Grasping:
Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. - Handling:
Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand. - Hearing:
Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound. - Kneeling:
Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. - Lifting:
Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles. - Manual Dexterity:
Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. - Mental Acuity:
Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes. - Pulling:
