Summary
A corrections professional who fosters a humane and secure environment and ensures public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.
Duties- Serve as a training instructor in a vocational or occupational training program within the Education Department of a Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional facility, and may also act as program coordinator for other vocational/occupational training programs.
- Select and/or develop curricula focused on appropriate vocational training areas.
- Directly responsible for delivering classroom training for vocational and apprenticeship courses in horticulture.
- Develop a curriculum design and record‑keeping system to organize and track student progress.
- Ensure training programs are implemented in compliance with Bureau policies, Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training regulations, and standards established by certifying agencies.
- Serve as apprenticeship program coordinator, overseeing development, review, and evaluation of vocational trades programs.
- Maintain security of the institution; security responsibilities precede all other duties.

QualificationsBasic Requirements –
Education:
Undergraduate and graduate education in a major related to the position, or a related subject area. Optional: LL.B, J.D., LL.M. for specific levels.
Specialized Experience – GL‑09 and GS‑11: Experience demonstrating practical knowledge in the subject area and methods of instruction, including:
- Teaching or instructing in adult education, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment.
- Supervising or administering a training program.
- Development or review of training/course materials and evaluation of training results.
- Work in the occupation or subject‑matter field with regular instruction to others.
Education – GL‑09: A master’s or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D. if related.
Education – GS‑11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M. if related.
Experience – GL‑09 & GS‑11: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level, solely credited if it equips the applicant with the qualifications to perform the duties successfully and demonstrates practical knowledge and instruction methods.
Combination of Education and Experience – GL‑09 & GS‑11: A valid combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the major duties.
