Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive guidance program for the assigned school, including counseling services. Provide proactive developmental guidance to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Qualifications- Education/Certification: Master’s degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program and full counselor certification, or Valid Texas Counselor certificate.
- Special Knowledge/
Skills:
Evidence of leadership in diverse populations and at-risk students; ability to collaborate with staff and community members on programs and services for at‑risk students; working knowledge of state codes, governing guidance and counseling services; excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong computer skills with internet and software programs; fluency in Microsoft Office and Excel. - Experience: Two years of teaching experience.
Guidance and Curriculum (35‑40%)
- Develop, in writing, a campus guidance curriculum aligned with WISD’s guidance curriculum and tailored to campus needs.
- Submit monthly guidance lessons to the Counseling Director.
- Schedule presentations of guidance lessons appropriately.
- Present guidance units effectively.
- Consult with staff regarding guidance material for campus presentations.
Individual Planning
- Engage students in personalized educational and career awareness.
- Develop long‑ and short‑range plans with students and school personnel that address academic, personal, and attendance needs to encourage maximum academic achievement and reduce dropout risk.
- Apply principles of testing and measurement to interpret standardized test results for students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of student assessments.
- Apply campus, district, and state policies in determining student placement and scheduling.
- Assist students in setting academic goals based on appraisal scores and academic performance.
- Schedule and attend parent/teacher/principal/counselor conferences to monitor student progress, discipline, absences, and staff requests.
- Conduct a transcript audit for all assigned students to ensure accuracy of credits, attendance, assessments, and graduation requirements for courses earning high‑school credit.
Responsive Services
- Maintain an effective referral system for student needs.
- Maintain a communication system that collects and disseminates information about students to other professionals.
- Accurately assess students’ and families’ needs for referral and make appropriate referrals.
- Participate actively in student referral to school/district special services and programs.
- Respond to students individually as needed.
- Provide group counseling when appropriate.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others to enhance their work with students.
- Collaborate closely with stakeholders to identify, track, prevent, recover, or discourage potential dropouts, students at risk of failing, or those wishing to accelerate or complete their education.
System Support
- Develop a comprehensive campus guidance plan defining needs, priorities, and program objectives.
- Assist in administering college placement exams.
- Pursue continuous professional growth and development.
