Duties
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive support to students through DSS services.
  • Works with admissions and therapy services to develop and implement ESPs for incoming students with IEPs or psycho educational evaluations.
  • Leads ESP meetings to review and update plans, consulting with students, therapists, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Develops lesson plans and delivers instruction for assigned courses, addressing the specific needs of students within DSS programs, including Core, Bridge, and DRIVE.
  • Grades assignments and communicates student performance through reports and regular updates to parents.
  • Designs and adapts curriculum to meet the needs of individual students and program objectives within DSS.
  • Fosters a positive school culture by maintaining open communication with students and parents.
  • Handles conflicts in a Christ-like manner, promoting respectful and compassionate solutions.
  • Supports the goals and direction of the administration in the spirit of Christian service (1 Corinthians 12:28-29).
  • Takes necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Keeps administration informed of significant developments, including student discipline matters and any deviations from standard routines.
  • Creates and maintains lesson plans tailored to students’ needs and ability on plan book.
  • Uses the curriculum effectively and with fidelity.
  • Maintains grades and notes on Power School.
  • Maintains Professional Crisis Management Certification.
  • Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s ESP.
  • Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
  • Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their ESP goals.
  • Develops and implements annual Educational Support Plan (ESP) plans for students to include present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.
  • Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with DST team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.
  • Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's ESP.
  • Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources including i-pads.
  • Serves as primary contact for the parent.
  • Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations.
  • Provides direction of educational assistants as directed.
  • Complies with School policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.
  • Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
  • Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities.
  • Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates and consults with educational professionals regarding the needs of students.
