School Social Worker

School Social Workers strengthen the district’s mission by providing services that enhance home, school and community partnerships. They address barriers that interfere with student performance and achievement by bringing stakeholders together to create an environment conducive to effective problem‑solving and learning. Responsibilities
  • Promote the mental health and well‑being of all students through individual and group psycho‑educational counseling, implementing district crisis protocols, and linking students and families to community mental health services.
  • Serve as liaison between school, family, and community agencies, advocating on behalf of students.
  • Promote parental engagement through a multi‑tiered system of supports, including home visits.
  • Consult with classroom teachers, administrators and other stakeholders to provide insight regarding a student’s needs or behaviors.
  • Develop comprehensive diagnostic assessments of students’ social, emotional, and interpersonal relationships within the school, home and community.
  • Serve on intra‑/interdisciplinary teams at each school to assist students experiencing attendance, academic, social, emotional and/or health problems.
  • Identify barriers to student attendance and engage parents to implement interventions that maximize student achievement.
  • Coordinate services with internal and external resource providers to develop a comprehensive service and delivery system.
  • Provide and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in social work preferred. Field work placement in a school setting or related human service area, or school social work experience preferred.
  • Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate or Florida Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Certification as a school social worker may be earned per Board policy.
  • Language

    Skills:

    Reads and interprets general business and professional journals, technical procedures or regulations. Writes reports, correspondence and manuals. Effectively presents and responds to questions from managers and the public.
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Works with probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Defines problems, collects data, establishes facts, draws valid conclusions, interprets technical instructions.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Knowledge of relevant and current computer software programs.
  • Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, kneeling, keyboarding, talking, hearing. Lifting up to 10 pounds. Reaching with both hands and overhead. Noise intensity moderate. Requires traveling to various school sites and community organizations.
