Adjunct Faculty – Life in the Oceans (BIOL 181)
University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach on-site at Eglin Air Force Base, FL, for the Biology program.
Course Details- Course:
Life in the Oceans (BIOL 181), an introductory study of marine organisms and ecosystems. - Duration: 8‑week class.
- Instruction:
In‑person teaching, at least one day per week, Monday‑Thursday (no weekend).
- Engage adult learners through frequent interaction and enthusiastic instruction.
- Facilitate active collaboration and problem- and project-based learning demonstrations.
- Provide regular, constructive feedback using rubrics for assessment and recognizing student accomplishments.
- Apply current subject‑matter expertise and help students connect concepts across the program.
- Recommend curricular improvements to the program chair.
- Master’s degree in Biology, Marine Biology or a related accredited field.
- Professional experience in biology, marine biology or related area.
- Strong preference for experience teaching adult learners online or in higher education.

- International candidates may need a degree evaluation from a NACES‑approved vendor.
- Salary: per credit hour, ranging from $806 to $1,645 depending on rank and terminal degree (details available in attached document).
- Health coverage: medical, vision, dental, prescription plans for individuals and families, effective from the month following hire. Adjuncts responsible for full cost.
- Insurance: term life and accidental death & dismemberment.
- Retirement: optional 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), and Roth plans (no matching funds).
