This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Jefferson Correctional Institution in the Education Department.
This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading‑Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.
The mission of the Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections is to provide comprehensive educational programs and services to inmates, enhancing their academic, vocational, and life skills to promote successful reintegration into society and reduce recidivism.
This is not a telework position; the instructor must report to the FDC office in the area served.
Job Duties- Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
- Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls and counts, and maintain attendance records.
- Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
- Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

- Non‑certified applicants must obtain a temporary State of Florida Educator’s Certificate within 12 months of hire. A State of Florida Educator’s Professional Certificate must be obtained prior to expiration of the temporary certificate.

Background Screening Requirement The Florida Department of Corrections requires all applicants and volunteers to pass a Level 2 background check as per Chapter 435, Florida Statutes before they can start working.
Employment Eligibility The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) only hires U.S. citizens and those authorized to work in the U.S. FDC uses E‑Verify to confirm eligibility after completing the I‑9 form. The FDC does not currently support H‑1B visa sponsorship.
