Location: Miami Shores

Summary

The student tutor conducts one‑on‑one or small group tutorial sessions on career readiness, professional development, Linked In, AI, online presence basics, and career exploration through peer conversations. The student tutor serves a diverse population of undergraduate students in the Peer Tutoring Lab and works in‑person a minimum of 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct one‑on‑one or small group tutorial sessions on career readiness, professional development, Linked In, AI, online presence basics, and career exploration.
  • Identify students’ career readiness needs and tailor strategies and instructional materials to meet individual students’ needs.
  • Assist students in career exploration and communicating with faculty mentors.
  • Engage students by utilizing active learning strategies and motivating them through active listening.
  • Provide positive feedback and make recommendations for further career exploration and goal setting.
  • Respect students’ diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives.
  • Document student work and progress using the systems established within the Content‑Area Tutoring Center; enter all data in a timely fashion as specified by the Glendon Hubert Learning Center Manager; communicate about students with challenging or unique situations.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions, maintain currency with technological resources, replenish consumable materials, and develop workshops or short videos related to career development.
Qualifications
  • Must work a minimum of 10 hours per week consistently and be available for at least two consecutive semesters.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Professional, punctual, organized, courteous.
  • Earned a grade of “A” in PSY 335 and PSY 436.
  • Currently enrolled as a Barry University student with a current GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • Professional faculty recommendation letter from the biology department.
  • Good academic standing.
