Adult Education Teacher

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Sago Palm Re-Entry Center in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model.

The Bureau of Education at the Florida Department of Corrections is committed to providing comprehensive educational programs and services that enhance inmates' academic, vocational, and life skills. This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

JOB DUTIES:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement.
  • Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.
  • Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests.
  • Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns.
  • Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.

Incentives:
  • Applicants in possession of a master’s degree (official transcripts) may be eligible for an additional $1,499.94 annually.
  • Possession of a temporary or professional teaching certificate may be eligible for a one-time $1,000 hiring bonus.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university; and
  • Possess or be eligible to apply for a State of Florida Educator's Certificate.
