Responsibilities

Serves as the senior academic advisor for undergraduate programs in the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Approves admissions, exceptions, withdrawals, and graduation clearances, and serves as the dean's designee for the resolution of undergraduate academic issues, including grade appeals. Coordinates transfer student advising, the honors in the major program, and the Degree in Three program.

Serves as the point of contact for transfer students. Approves transfer student applications, conducts outreach to transfer students, completes graduation checks, and enters graduation clearance decisions. Monitors late drops and Degree in Three Policy. Serves as Degree in Three program liaison; serves as contact, attends meetings, map out the student's degree program for the three years, track students in program to ensure completion in three years.

Serves as dean's designee to assist in the resolution of undergraduate academic issues including the resolution of grade appeals, special issues and academic concerns. Designated as liaison to Dean's Office regarding multifaceted inquiries from students; drafts prompt & comprehensive responses that answers students' questions & provides complete explanation. Designated as the honors & scholars advisor including the honors in the major program.

Approves admissions, re-admissions, special exceptions, withdrawals, course add/drops, reinstatement, graduation clearances, grade changes, Dean's holds, major changes, SASS updates, certifications from lower division to upper division. Prepares, reviews, and processes administrative paperwork related to academic advising and reporting requirements. Performs graduation checks. Reviews applications. Conducts exit interviews.

Counsels and advises students daily regarding academic program requirements, rules, regulations, and guidelines. Interprets policies, procedures, rules, and regulations related to academic advising and student services. Makes recommendations for the effective operation of the Student Services Offices. Assists in implementing policy changes. Participates and conducts College and University outreach programs such as orientations, TCC days, Preview, and others. Responds to requests for information from potential students.

Serves as liaison to Registrar's Office regarding academic bulletin changes. Proofing/editing/updating general bulletin, academic guide, and maps. Responsible for sending mass e-mails when necessary. Performs related duties as required by a supervisor in the absence of personnel.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of academic program planning, development, and evaluation.
