The School of Teacher Education in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-earning assistant professor of Elementary Mathematics Education position to start in August of 2027.

Faculty in the Mathematics Education Program in the School of Teacher Education strive to develop a deep understanding of, and respect for, our teaching candidates and colleagues. The faculty have a long history of internationally recognized scholarship and a track‑record of award‑winning scholarship and consistent external funding. Our goal is to inform the field’s understanding of mathematics teaching and learning through research and policy development aimed at transforming lives and striving towards collective wellness and more sustainable ways of being.

Responsibilities

Applicants will be expected to engage in research and seek external funding related to Mathematics Education for Elementary Students, teach undergraduate courses (specifically elementary mathematics methods courses) and graduate courses, collaborate with Elementary Education faculty, advise and mentor Master’s and Doctoral students, conduct research that informs the field, collaborate with STEM faculty, and provide service to the university, local community partners, and the profession.

Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in Elementary Education, Mathematics Education (or a related field such as Curriculum & Instruction with a focus on STEM education) by August 2027.
  • A strong record of scholarship commensurate with position, as indicated by peer‑reviewed journal publications, conference presentations, and collaborative projects.
  • A productive and innovative research agenda that operates within a strong theoretical and empirical approach to understanding some facet of Elementary Mathematics Teaching or Learning
  • Experience teaching at elementary and post‑secondary levels.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience securing and/or working on externally funded research projects.
  • Experience collaborating with STEM faculty and/or elementary schools.
  • A research focus on learning technologies, AI, and/or data science in the context of mathematics and statistics teaching and learning
