Teaching Faculty I/II in Nutrition and Food Science (9 Month Salary) Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences Department

The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences in the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences at Florida State University invites applications for a nine-month Specialized Teaching Faculty position. We seek a colleague with expertise in Food Science who is committed to excellence in teaching, student mentoring, academic advising, and program leadership. The successful candidate will serve as the primary teaching faculty member supporting Food Science education within the Nutrition and Food Science program.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Food Science and related areas of the curriculum, providing academic advising and mentoring to Food Science students, and contributing to the continued growth, coordination, and advancement of Food Science education within the department.

The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Food Sciences at Florida State University is a dynamic academic unit serving approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 120 graduate students. The department offers undergraduate degree programs in Nutrition and Food Science, Dietetics, Exercise Physiology, and Athletic Training. Graduate programs include master's degrees in Nutrition and Food Science, Sports Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, and Sports Sciences, as well as doctoral degrees in Nutrition and Food Science and Exercise Physiology.

The department also offers an accredited Dietetic Internship that prepares graduates for credentialing and professional practice as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists.

Faculty in the department are engaged in nationally and internationally recognized research and scholarship spanning nutrition, food science, exercise physiology, and related health sciences. Areas of expertise include basic, applied, clinical, and translational research focused on nutrition, metabolism, cardiovascular health, physical activity, food systems, human performance, and healthy aging. The department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, student mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration to advance health and well-being across the lifespan.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the Nutrition and Food Science program.
  • Serving as the primary academic advisor and mentor for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing Food Science.
  • Providing leadership and coordination for Food Science curriculum, assessment, and student success initiatives.
  • Collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to strengthen and advance Food Science education within the Nutrition and Food Science program.
  • Engaging in service that supports the department, college, university, community, and profession.
Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Food Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching Food Science or related courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
  • Relevant professional, industry, regulatory, extension, or applied experience in Food Science or a related field.
  • Evidence of effective communication, collaboration, and student mentoring.
  • Evidence of professional, university, and/or community service.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience coordinating academic programs, advising students, or providing curriculum leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success through advising, mentoring, and experiential learning opportunities.
